Your Drug of Choice

I could ask what happened,
But the deceit isn’t worth my sanity.
The stories you craft aren’t bestsellers,
The pictures you paint aren’t Van Gogh’s,

But you always telling them,
To whoever’s listening,
The girl at the end of the bar,
Waiting to chime in,
Ready for the spotlight,
Because attention is your drug of choice,
You’re addicted.

The likes and RTs are your track marks,
You’re feeding your habit,
Willing to suck him,
Shit, even her,
But as long as it’s in reach,
The need outweighs the actions,

I get it,
I really do,
Because just like you,
I was once addicted too.
There’s no rehab for this,
But it’s kick able,
You gotta want it tho,
Like you like seeing your views run up,
No bag attached,
No you feel attacked,
Triggered maybe,

Like ‘Fuck him, I’m gone post a selfie right now.’

So I’ll like it,
So will thousands of others,
Cause we support your habit,
We know it’s for clout,
But your curves are fire,
Fake but whose complaining,
Not me, at least
Not today at least,
Not to you at least,
Because I get it,
I was once you too.

  1. And this poem explains how it is trying to fit in today’s society…wanting to be that person thru social media that everyone likes and enjoys…doing it all for a few likes! Just to be internet famous for a moment ☺️
